At a hot spring we visited called Jarðböðin, I overheard two fellow tourists speaking Japanese. I lived in Japan for a year and a quarter, teaching English, about 5 years prior. It’d been a long time since I got to practice my Japanese, so I seized the opportunity.

They were named Sue and Katto, and I later found out that they actually didn’t know each other prior, only randomly meeting on the tour, like I was now doing with them. We chatted in a combination of Japanese and English, and I was super psyched that I could increase the number of languages I got to use on the trip from 2 to 3 (including Icelandic)!

I ended up becoming friends with Sue (hi!), and this is he and I hanging out in the hot spring.

(Sorry the picture doesn’t really look like you!)
