I really wanted to try one of the fancy holiday drinks, which were pictured covered in whipped cream, syrups, crushed things, etc. But what did they mean?? Turns out, the two drinks being promoted when I was there were named after Icelandic christmas characters – the troll Grýla (pronounced “greela”) and her 3rd husband, Leppalúði (pronounced “leppa-looth-ih”). Grýla is the mother of the 13 Yule Lads, or Icelandic Santa Clauses, whom I mentioned once before. I didn’t know any of this while I was there; I’ve discovered this since returning from my trip.
