This is a Yule Cat (sculpture?) I saw in Akureyri. The Yule Cat, or Jólaköttur, is an Icelandic Christmas character. (They’ve got a bunch, including 13 “Yule Lads,” aka Santa Clauses.) It’s said to eat those who haven’t received any new clothes to wear before Christmas Eve.

This construction was made of nailed-together black-painted wood. It had big green eyes, and an evocative feline pose, like it was on the prowl. It was awesome.
