This is a view of Krafla, a boiling, sulfuric field of mud pools. Our guide said it’s sometimes called the Gates of Hell, just like Dimmuborgir – though I thought this place was the more appropriate choice.
There were signs all over the place to not step off the slatted wood paths on the ground, lest you step onto boiling mud, which could melt through your shoes and eat your feet. Plus, the overwhelming stench of sulfur was incredible, way worse than in the steam bath. I had to walk around with my mouth/nose covered by my gloved hand, and it was still awful. It was an amazing sight to see, but very unpleasant to experience. +50 experience points! -4 Constitution.
